In
Sabina, Italy
Our
first featured location is the In Sabina Yoga Centre and bed and breakfast in the beautiful Italian countryside
close to Rome. The
property consists of two 17th century stone buildings on 4 acres of
land with an outdoor swimming pool. The houses, both
beautifully restored, are situated on a hill amidst undulating
farmland and forests. Around the buildings are spacious terraces and
a covered portico for meals. There are stunning views of the
grounds, with its hillside olive groves and fruit trees, spectacular
evening sunsets, and a large field in the valley below.
The
setting is calm and rustic and an ideal place for spiritual
practice. A natural spring supplies the property with abundant fresh
water. There is also a small pond and a kitchen garden with a
variety of fresh vegetables and herbs. The landscape provides
covered areas on the grounds for resting, reading and meditation. The houses and grounds are very private and peaceful as well
as easily accessible. A winding country road leads from the property
to the charming medieval town of Torri in Sabina three kilometers
away. For more information, contact Giulia

Parrot
Cay, Turks and Caicos Isles (As featured in
The
Spa Finder Guide to Spas for Yoga by
Daryn Eller).
A week spent on a private Caribbean island surrounded by sparkling
turquoise waters can be a transcendental experience in its own
right. Add special yoga retreats taught by sage and celebrated
instructors and it could be Nirvana. Shambhala, the spa at Parrot
Cay, is known
for its five-day yoga retreats featuring yoga "stars" such
as Rodney Yee, director of Piedmont Yoga Studio in Oakland; Cyndi
Lee of Om Yoga Center in New York City; and Sharon Gannon and David
Life, founders of New York´s Jivamukti Yoga. Another of the six
yearly retreats featured a workshop in Iyengar yoga, and yet another
combined yoga with martial arts, qi gong, and the Indian Siddha
Vaidya and Ayurvedic systems of medicine and rejuvenation.
During nonretreat weeks, Parrot Cay
offers six classes a week, catering to all levels. (Private sessions
can also be arranged.) The classes concentrate on stretching,
restorative postures, and breath awareness. Guests who wish to
expand their practice of the last can also take the morning
meditation classes. Yoga is generally practiced in a
climate-controlled pavilion with a view of the island´s mangrove
inlets, but occasionally classes are held on the beach. Teachers
also lead walking meditations. For additional serenity, a guest may
opt for Shambhala´s treatments. Many come from Asian traditions,
including Thai, t´ui na (Chinese), Indian, and Indonesian massage.
Three special spa treatment suites have Japanese baths.
