Yoga
Basics will give you an overview of the fundamental elements that you will
want to know when starting a practice of Hatha Yoga. Any of the
following links will bring you to pages offering more in-depth information
on that particular facet of yoga.
Starting
Yoga - A description of hatha yoga, and the self-assessment that
is helpful for you to do before beginning your practice of yoga.
Includes information on whether to get a physical examination when
starting a practice, and how to incorporate a Healthy Lifestyle,
and Mind and Spirit into your practice for even greater benefits.
Styles
of Yoga - An overview of the different schools of yoga practice,
ranging from the gentle practices to the vigorous practices, from the ones
that focus primarily on the meditative practices, to the ones that focus
on precise poses. By understanding the differences and emphasis
of the various types of yoga, as well as the resources related to each
type, you can develop a yoga practice that will be precisely tailored to
your own needs in order to maximize the benefits to you.
Yoga
Breathing - This essential part of yoga practice is described, and
several simple breathing practices are offered. Resources for
learning more about the practices of yogic breathing are provided.

Practice - A list of helpful tips for starting your yoga practice,
including ideas on how to make it enjoyable and tailor it for your own
needs. Also includes suggestions on how to find the right classes or
teachers, whether they be in person, in print, or on video or audio
media. A wide range of book and video reviews are provided.
Benefits
of Yoga - While obvious benefits include increased flexibility and
stress reduction, there are a variety of additional benefits which are
listed here. From better cardiovascular health and reduced risk of
osteoporosis to "expanded conciousness", many of the benefits of
yoga are explained.
Yoga
Philosophy - In addition to the physical postures, the breathing
techniques and the meditative techniques, there is history and philosophy
that is helpful for practitioners to understand. You may choose to
practice the "guidelines" of the Yamas and Niyamas to further
enhance your practice and the benefits which you will receive from
it.
