an anti-oxidant. Dr. Michael Roizen,

The top food

Dr. Roizen
suggests vitamin C should be
taken in 1,200 mg. daily in 2-3 divided doses for
an average adult, with smokers and those drinking alcohol or taking
certain medications needing more. Dr. Roizen suggests
vitamin C therapy of up to 4,000 mg (with 1 additional glass of
water/1,000 mg of C) daily to decrease severity & duration of
cold symptoms. Vitamins C & E are said to work synergistically,
having a greater effect when taken together.
Dr. Perricone
suggests 3,000 to 5,000 mg/day of vitamin C for an average 50 year old
patient. Dr. Perricone also recommends 500 mg/day of vitamin C
ester, the buffered/fat soluble form of the vitamin which is said to enter
the cells more easily.
In his book, The Wrinkle Cure,
Dr. Perricone also recommends the application of topical vitamin C (plus DMAE
& Alpha Lipoic Acid) in the form of skin creams or topical lotions to
keep skin smooth and firm.

High doses of vitamin C can lead to gastrointestinal
problems and imbalances. Doctors and nutritionists often suggest a
gradual increase of dosage, stopping before diarrhea occurs. A
vitamin C overdose unlikely as excess
amounts of vitamin C are excreted through the urine.
